Following our AGM, we are pleased to have as our guest speaker Dr. Troy McMullin who will make a presentation on Adventures in Lichenology. Dr. McMullin is a research scientist in lichenology and the head of Botany at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa.
Join Troy for an introduction to lichens and to learn about his perambulations throughout North America studying these fascinating but often overlooked organisms. He will present discoveries in lichen biogeography, ecology, ethnolichenology, and taxonomy. He will also show how lichens are used in medicine, as dyes, as food, in space, and much more. Come and appreciate the small things in life.
Troy will also highlight a lichen that he discovered in the Carp Hills that is new to North America.
He will have copies of his two newly released books for sale.
Troy has agreed to lead a lichen tour of the Carp Barrens in spring. The date will be announced later subject to his field work schedule. This tour will be for a small group and for members only.
